The Brains Behind Same-Day Crowns

Before CEREC® technology transformed the way porcelain crowns are made, the old process required multiple visits to our Vista Dental Care Offices in Ontario, CA. We took impressions of our patients’ teeth with messy “goo” that was very uncomfortable for patients to endure. Once the impression was finished, we sent it to an off-site lab to be made into a porcelain crown.

After an average of 7-10 days, the crown was then sent back to our office for placement on the patient’s damaged tooth. From beginning to end, the entire multiple-visit process usually took about two weeks to complete. Meanwhile, our patients had to wear temporary crowns.

CEREC Technology Changed Everything

Known as “One-Visit Dentistry,” the CEREC system’s industry-leading technology transformed the old time-consuming process of dental crown restoration into a single-visit process. Patients can now walk into Vista Dental Care with a damaged tooth and walk out two hours later with a beautiful, permanent, porcelain crown created by the CEREC system right in our own dental office.

The Magic of Digital Dental Crowns

The CEREC machine is a special computer that uses full-color 3-D digital imaging to create a precise three-dimensional model of the damaged tooth and then communicates with a milling machine to mold the actual crown. Here’s how it works:

First Step: Using a special intra-oral camera Dr. Michael Min, DDS takes a digital 3-D image of the damaged tooth which takes just a few minutes to complete.

Second Step: Guided by the CEREC system, he then creates the dental crown restoration design.

Third Step: Dr. Min transmits the restoration design to our CEREC in-office milling machine that molds a ceramic block into a high-quality ceramic crown, matched by size, shape, and color to our patient’s tooth.

Gorgeous, Durable Porcelain Crowns

Even though CEREC technology shortens the crown-making process, the beauty and durability of CEREC porcelain crowns are without equal. Just like the old fashioned crowns, your CEREC crowns will keep you smiling for many years to come.
